On March 6th, Assistant Professor Clint Wayman and his students from PLSC 455/555: Advanced Sustainable Landscape Construction met with Dr. Andrea Ludwig (Professor and Extension Specialist, Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science), along with representatives from Knox County Stormwater and the City of Knoxville to participate in the 2026 Creekbank Protection and Repair Workshop. This year’s workshop was located at Founders Park in Farragut, Tennessee, and targeted the Turkey Creek watershed with a focus on streambank improvements to a section of North Fork Turkey Creek. Students, faculty, and city and county employees donned their waders, got in the water, and helped stabilize the previously eroding streambank by securing various erosion control structures and installing live stake, bare root, and plug plant material. Some of the live stake cuttings used were even grown at the UT Gardens! The workshop provided students with an experiential learning opportunity – taking concepts and principles presented in the classroom and applying them directly through hands-on service. Check out some photos from the day below!
